Quinn Donovan found an ideal spot inside the new downtown Empire Parking Garage to move his mortgage title business last month, but it still presented challenges.
For example, the giant concrete pillars in the front lobby were structurally necessary, but not the most aesthetically pleasing.
So Donovan installed a waterfall rolling down the beam, which added a soothing sound and modern look to the parking garage condo space.
“We were like, what do we do with a big old pillar? A waterfall turned a big old pain in the butt to a feature,” Donovan said.
This water feature was one piece of the $1 million worth of work Donovan did inside the new space for this business, First Montana Title. It’s the first company to move in to the new Empire Garage on Montana Avenue between Broadway and North 27th Street.
The city-owned garage has eight commercial spaces designed to house a mix of offices, retailers and restaurants. Donovan owns five, including the First Montana Title space, and restaurateur Howard Wu owns the remaining three.
Wu, who owns the Asian Seafood Grill on the West End, plans to open Wild Ginger Japanese Steakhouse this spring or summer in the Empire Garage. By then, Donovan said First Montana will be feeling right at home.
